Disney 30 Day Challenge Day 8: Favorite Villain
Judge Claude Frollo
(I’m sorry this turned into an analysis.)
Okay, so Disney’s definition of “favorite villain” is most commonly “the characters we love to hate.” This idea in mind, I found it really hard to pick one. I mean, we’re supposed to hate villains, so I hate them all. But, and maybe it’s because he’s from my all-time favorite movie, I chose Frollo. He, as I saw one blogger put it, is “the scariest villain because he’s the most human,” which is completely correct. Every character must have a yearning in the plot. Other Disney villains’ yearnings include eternal youth, a spotted-puppy fur coat, riches, ultimate power, or simply for the protagonist to just suffer. Frollo, however, exhibits very (cruel) human traits: he is in a position of power that he shamelessly abuses; he deceives and brainwashes Quasimodo (to an extent); he obsesses over and lusts for Esmerelda; he claims to be a righteous man when really he is the most evil; he plans on killing all of the gypsies. The list goes on. All of these are characteristics displayed by some of the world’s most twisted and despised leaders. So basically, Frollo is a deceitful, rapey hypocrite who scares the crap out of small children.
